“You cannot be her. She is far away.
She walks in starlight in another world.”

Overview

“But a Nobler Fate has found Thee
Than was e’er by valour won;
But a deeper spell has wound thee;
Than was e’er by man undone.”

Raised within the frigid political landscape of Ishgard is a woman with an ire that rivals the fury of Halone. An Astrologian suffused with the stars, and the ambition to throw wide the gates of the seventh heaven and defy what is normally considered a miracle. An unfortunate tragedy sees her imbued with a surfeit of dense aether - destined to become the constellation that scars the sea of stars, bringing both a warm and guiding light alongside the promise of calamity.Hers is an existence tarnished by a battle-worn epoch. At the surface, timeless. An imposing woman with lurid celestial eyes and down-turned lips fitting a diaphanous mien and framed by pearlescent tresses. She is refined and cinched with dark, supple silks and precious metals; attire suited for a sheltered background of wealth and prosperity. Youthful wintry skin encases a lissom frame carried with impeccable poise and grace.She is whole - at least on the surface and favours her aptitude for magic over physical prowess. Experiences have moulded the girl into a woman who now navigates the world like a queen who holds court.Often she greets it with an air of apathetic serenity, concealing beneath the surface a draconian instinct that is both eldritch and ireful. Where once there was a disposition of calculated guile, now molten anger and a burning purpose contrasts the ephemeral fragility of Rebekah Jourdain.

"Yet here we are, even when wearing your uglier disposition. They may be intimidated, my Lady, but I am not."

"... You should be."

Rebekah Marguerite Jourdain (née Foy) was born the only daughter and sole heir to the minor noble family of House Foy. Their presence always pertained to the acquisition and distribution of resources to the population and the military; however, recent intervention by the scion of the house has yielded research efforts within the First Dicasterial Observatorium of Aetherial and Astrological Phenomena. House Foy, and Rebekah especially are staunch supporters of the Ishgard Restoration, pointing out in a statement that it was necessary to uplift the populace. The Foy treasury and association with the other Houses of Ishgard are fundamentally kept to themselves unless otherwise requested. As seen with many citizens of Ishgard - the Foy Bloodline boasts a very distant relation to the founding fathers of Ishgard, albeit heavily diluted, implying the presence of cursed blood coursing through their veins. Her father who was the previous head goes by the name of Etienne de Foy.Her mother perished when Rebekah was six years of age, due to the Dravanian Horde's onslaught - and Rebekah mourns her passing to this very day. Rumours have described it as foul play, with fingers pointed at the Harriers as prime suspects. With her passing, the young Rebekah adopted her nickname as a moniker, and had been referred to as 'Wanda' ever since.Despite the pain of loss, Rebekah grew into a fine, albeit stern young woman, with an aptitude for magic harnessed and strengthened through her studies. Where she lacked in physical strength, she excelled in mental and magical prowess. Rebekah is a passionate sorceress, who focused mainly on her skills as an Astrologian. However, the Dragonsong War was always a thorn within the side of the Lady, and while she managed to survive most of her life unscathed by the ensuing battle between Man and Dragon, it was at the cusp of the Calamity that tragedy struck. It yielded a lasting injury that, at a glance, is not noticeable. However, if one were to listen carefully, one would hear a terrible stutter in her breathing that becomes far more apparent during periods of exertion. The result of which inspired a reclusive nature in the woman, which, while smothered now, still rears its head in bouts of imposed solitude.Over the years, it became clear that Rebekah developed a rather strenuous relationship with her father. She took after her mother in disposition and grew into a woman respected and feared within the court for her unbridled ire and stoic nature. A personality that became the wedge between father and daughter, reclusive as Rebekah may have been, freedom was what Rebekah sought - and it was not what Etienne gave her. She could not fault him and sometimes believed that the loss of her mother caused Etienne to keep Rebekah so close, but as she matured, he only ever became overwhelming. Despite this, Etienne tried to be a loving father, a man worthy of his title, even if his views were often skewed. After some time, Rebekah took on more responsibilities as her father grew older and wearier. She managed their affairs as every son and daughter of House Foy did, with silence and confidentiality. Only those in direct business with House Foy were ever inclined as to how wealthy the House indeed was.Still, her yearning for freedom continued, but with it, the smouldering fear of the world outside of Ishgard's walls - no thanks to the war that near crippled her for many, many months. Only after her encounter with a Dark Knight, Rebekah found the courage to act upon her yearning. Much to her father's chagrin, she found herself leaving the sanctified walls of the Holy See (and effectively abandoning her duties as a Lady of the House) in the company of Ser Mordred Jourdain and Ser Elias Mercer. A pair she now speaks fondly of. Their company Rebekah values above a typical day among high society, unfortunately, both men boast histories ill-perceived, and their presence gives rise to rumours and hushed whispers in abundance.Over time, Rebekah's countenance became all the grimmer, and the entourage she surrounded herself had grown significantly. However, a shadow sat on Rebekah's shoulders, and with each return to Ishgard, she appeared more haunted and changed. It was a promise, at first, to see the world. But soon Rebekah had more cause to fight for it than witness it. Little did she know that her exploits would leave her irrevocably changed. Much of her adventures remain a closely guarded secret, save for the fact that she and her companions had a minor part to play in the events that took place in Garlemald; and the Final Days. Still, it could not be denied that while her soul stone reflected the path of an Astrologian, her skills in Astromancy itself rapidly surpassed some of the most academic in the field. This could no doubt be attributed to a wellspring of aether which she refuses to explain. She described it as an unlocked potential more remarkable than the mere reading of the cards that reside in starlight and etch itself on the stone she carries on her person at all times. Now, fate’s whimsy no longer guides her.Love was found in the heart of Ser Mordred, too, throughout her journey. But it was only after a slew of tragedies that both could finally be wed. Thereafter, her father saw fit to offer his title and holdings unto the newly wed pair, elevating husband and wife to Viscountcy. Now, at the cusp of her thirties, she is equipped with new responsibilities and timeless wisdom, Rebekah strives to make the most of her newfound peace. A second chance is granted in the hopes that she might find herself a soft epilogue with naught but her growing family to keep her content until her last days upon the Star finally come to greet her.

Out of Character

<Teewi, She/Her, Aged 25+>Hello. Welcome to my character's little profile. As a refugee from WoW, I'm an easy going person who just wants to create stories and collaborate with people to make something fun. I have plenty experience with roleplay and writing, so you're welcome to contact me both IC and OOC if you're interested in writing with me.I enjoy long-form, low-to-high fantasy roleplay, but tend to adjust according to my partners. One-on-One or small groups are my comfort zone, large crowds make me anxious because I struggle to keep up! I'm also a very big fan of emotive and deep stories that really gets my creativity flowing, as well as action and adventure being my main driver. If you need a DM/GM for an event, I dabble in it with my friends! I try my best to stay within the realms of the universe's lore, and am generally quite open to how people explore their creativity, and would like a similar respect for my own.Generally speaking, all of the big no-no topics fall under the 'I will not write' category. This includes sexual assault, roleplay with underage writers and characters, harassment and other questionable things. No thank-you. Likewise, please don't bring unnecessary drama my way, I prefer to avoid it.Consent is everything.You're welcome to /tell me if you're looking for my discord details. I play in the evenings around 5-9 PM EST on the Crystal Data Center - Mateus.

Rumors & Hooks

Noble Diplomat
Rebekah's lineage comes with the privilege of boasting influence among the noble elite. Her wit and smarts have made her a formidable foe and powerful ally among the nobility, especially when in favor of those less privileged than she. Many houses have lost their credibility after crossing metaphorical swords with Rebekah Jourdain.
Dragonhead
Much of her time as of late has been spent within the Dragonhead region, more specifically the First Dicasterial Observatorium of Aetherial and Astrological Phenomena where she conducts her research. She can often be seen speaking to various individuals who pass through this hub. It's quite likely to bump into the noblewoman here.
[Note: This is an open-world roleplay spot set on Dynamis, Halicarnassus. You can find more info here.]Perilous Fateweaver
Rebekah is a woman who can perceive fate; however, she abhors the concept in its entirety. Her learning in Sharlayan Astromancy alongside studies with the Athenaeum Astrologicum has given her the power to weave her aetheric magic to aid others - and sometimes to harm them.
Soft Epilogues:
Rumours have spread throughout Ishgard about the birth of a child within the household of the Jourdain family. It was soon common knowledge that the Lady Rebekah had given birth to a son, aptly named Gabriel. After tragedy and grief almost tore the pair apart, this newfound responsibility has left both parents content to idly live their days among their people instead of going on daring adventures to aid the Star.
[Rare] Wellspring:
Rebekah boasts a vast wellspring of aether that is coupled with a gaze reflecting a nigh predatory nature. Questions yield only a single vague answer - that it was an accident that took place during her travels after the war. Few have been graced with the truth.

House Jourdain

"Our greatest glory is not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall."

Beginning as House Foy, their presence pertained to the acquisition and distribution of resources to the population and the military. Upon the maturity of the original, sole heir; vast amounts of efforts were put into the aid of research for the First Dicasterial Observatorium of Aetherial and Astrological Phenomena. Overall, House Foy served as a faithful prospectorium and scholarium for both Ishgard but more closely House Fortempts; their liege lords. At the height of House Foy's rise, however, the former patriarch, Etienne managed to ascend to the station of Viscount through clever diplomacy and distribution of commercial pacts.Arriving to current day, House Foy exists as House Jourdain after the merging of houses through the marriage of their soul heirs. The Jourdain dynasty that of a bloodline recently re-enlightened from the depths of obscurity and an attempt to wipe the name from the history books. With thus came a heavy compensation in the form of wealth that the newly ascended Viscount Jourdain has wielded in an effort to project his intent at future independence; with the swelling of ranks both in levy and retinue, alongside further utilization of their vast, raw resources - recruiting many an artisan to refine their goods into more practical application.

Foy Manor

"Some ghosts are so quiet you would hardly know they were there."

Amidst a nation that has long forgotten the notion a peace, there resides a House that saw to warmth and comfort offered to those who sought to escape the nightmares brought from the war. It was frequent, almost too frequent, that Foy Manor was abuzz with parties and movement from visitors throughout Ishgardian society. Limited only by their isolation from the rest of Eorzea. Some might say, this flaunting of wealth and opening of their home was a demonstration of carelessness and materialism - especially when the hosts insisted they were hardly the sort to flaunt it, whilst many of prestige flocked - if only to boast that they had participated in one of their, often spontaneous, events.Now, after a thousand years of war, and a society reformed - the evenings continue, and guests stream in and out of the manor without pause, speaking of the family in fondness, especially now with its newest arrival, the young heir. However, the presence of the heads of house are infrequent, whilst still content to host parties under their roof; it is not always common for the hosts to attend them.Foy Manor is an old estate, manned by a number of hosts since its founding to the present. Long has it been in the hands of the de Foy family, who had prided themselves in their openness to the prestigious public. But now, it seems, there has been a changing of hands - where one family finds itself obsolete, another takes its place.Jourdain.A name whispered on the lips of the many, heralded by the winds of change to usher in a family once bygone, once lowly and once again elevated. By way of marriage did the House return to status, and now instead of the long respected Foy Bloodline, it is Jourdain that sits at the head of the table, upholding the traditions of the esteemed family, no doubt thanks to the sole and final heir to the now defunct House Foy.Headed by the Jourdains is the elusive, rather frightful and newly titled Viscount, Mordred, whom oft spends his time ensuring that the daily duties and functions of the household run smoothly. At his side, is the once reclusive Rebekah Jourdain (née Foy), most often seen commiting to her duties as a mother, or assisting her husband on matters of the household. The newest and youngest member of the family is their first-born son and heir. At present, it is rare to find him at public gatherings, unless brought out by his mother.Several other members of the house yet reside here, such as the prior Viscount, Etienne de Foy. Notably, several knights and a Lalafellin scholar make their home here as well, the latter of which has taken on a rather interesting role of quartermaster and seneschal to the budding family.While it is not always common to see the hosts in their own manor, guests can enjoy the hospitality of house staff, who do their utmost to ensure that their patrons are comfortable.

The ancestral seat of the Household, known as Foy Manor is sequestered in a quiet corner of the Coerthas. It is a humble home, as far as humility extends to high society, every corner meticulously built and decorated with warmth and family in mind. Those who enter find calm and tranquility, a place that inspires a slower pace and a gentler hand on life. It is no wonder many find themselves guests on a more... permanent basis.
